Sometimes life gets in the way of all the things you’d like to do. At Yogaschool Amsterdam in Amsterdam Oud West, certified yoga teachers will show you how to create space for yourself. Via a pure, traditional form of yoga: Iyengar Yoga. A yoga form that balances body, mind and soul.

(90 min.) Work with your breath for 90 minutes in order to get back in your body and increase your focus. An exercise to look at your breath, followed by a short meditation. Then comes a longer series of moving through the Asanas. There won’t be any detailed instructions, Linda tells you what you have to do and how to breathe in it. This class is for you when you’ve followed Iyengar yoga classes for at least one year or when you asked one of the teachers whether you can follow this one and wish to “develop”. It is the ideal step towards a self-practice.

A series of four classes gives you an opportunity to be amongst other people who, just like you, have never done (Iyengar) yoga before. First Asana's are taught and repeated so that you build a firm base. You learn to work with props (blocks, belts, blankets) designed by Mr. Iyengar to help you understand more of your body and of the poses. Our lovely teacher Harriët will answer all your questions and there’s little take home tasks so you can also practice in between the classes. This course is exclusively for you when you inscribed for it, but next to the Tuesday evening Beginners course you’re also welcome to join one or two “Level 1” classes per week extra. Young or old, souple or stiffer, fit or not so very fit 😉 everybody can join. In our classes we communicate both in Dutch as well as in English.

Are you suffering from a pain or even an injury? Here you learn how to adapt asana's for when you do the regular group classes. Not alone for hints how to proceed, there's also room for questions, so that everybody can learn from each other. And more so you could join the 19:30 class to immediately apply what you've learnt. (90 min.) In our yogaclass 'More with breath' you take your rest first and so restore your energy level. You learn how to work more soft and subtle in different asana’s and you'll build a bridge between the physical and silencing the mind. In these deepening classes you make the step from restorative asana's to Pranayama, the path of the life energy. Where the practice of Asana aligns the body, our breath (observing and cultivating it) can lead our energy towards a good direction. You can join if you have at least one year of regular Iyengar yoga experience. Do ask your teacher when you hesitate this class is suitable for you.

We will guide you in that process by sharing our own 20 year experience in yoga. Our experience comes directly and indirectly from the founder himself, the late Mr. BKS Iyengar. His first book Light on Yoga is still regarded worldwide as the bible of yoga. And for all forms, too, thanks to the exquisitely illustrated basic poses (asanas) demonstrated by the master himself.
